HMD Global announced the first Nokia phone to taste Android 9 Pie. The cellphone is Nokia 7 Plus, which joined the ranks of the first non-Google phones that got the OS update.
This announcement was issued by Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global in his tweet. In addition to Nokia 7 Plus, there are only Essential Phones, 8 Motorola phones, and OnePlus 6 that have tasted Android 9 Pie, including the Google Pixel line of course.
Everybody wants a piece of the Pie! We are starting roll out of Android™ 9 on #Nokia7Plus. Which of its delicious new features is your favorite? 🍰 #Nokiamobile pic.twitter.com/whiZlZPLTP— Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) September 28, 2018
Compared to the previous version, Android 9 Pie has a number of new features such as adaptive battery, new navigation, and a new notification display.
And Nokia 7 Plus, is the first non-Google phone that has the Digital Wellbeing feature, one of the newer features that shows mobile phone usage habits and monitor application usage.
The Android 9 Pie update process for Nokia 7 Plus is currently in progress. In the future, Nokia 6.1 will also get the Android 9 Pie update, as quoted from The Verge, Sunday (09/30/2018).
Although not many phones have received Android 9 Pie update, it still has a faster presence than the newer Android OS a few years ago.
This can happen because Project Treble, a feature in Android Oreo, makes cellphone vendors easier and faster in updating their mobile OS.
